Greenville Technical College is committed to providing a world-class affordable education to students. The purpose of this policy is to clarify late withdrawal guidelines for students who experience a medical or hardship circumstance in a given semester.
A student seeking a Late Withdrawal, due to a medical or hardship circumstance, may request a complete withdrawal for the current or the previous semester. Medical-related issues require documentation from a health care professional and other supporting documentation and a hardship-related issue requires documentation to be adequately provided by an insurance company, police reports, or the company employing the student. Other documentation may be considered at the discretion of the appropriate college administrator. The student will be considered enrolled in the courses pending the final decision.
Any evidence of fraudulence or misrepresentation of circumstances in this process/application will result in automatic recommendation for denial and the information will be turned over to the Dean of Students for appropriate action within the guidelines of the Student Code as published in the Student Handbook and Catalog.
**A student who wishes to withdraw from courses as a result of being called to active duty, specialized training, or disaster relief efforts must provide a copy of his/her orders. For more details please refer to the Student Handbook and Catalog.
Students with chronic disabling conditions are encouraged to register with the Office of Student Disabilities Services within two weeks of being admitted to the college.
Students who are pregnant or on maternity leave should contact the Title IX Coordinator within two weeks of being admitted to the college or within two weeks of a status change.
A Late Withdrawal request may be initiated only after the last day to withdraw for the pertinent class(es) has occurred. The student may not have participated in the final exam. If the course(s) have been completed and a grade has been assigned, the earned grade will stand.
A student initiating a Late Withdrawal request should understand that failing or performing poorly in a class, and/or dissatisfaction with the subject matter, class, or the instructor are not acceptable, serious and compelling reasons for consideration as a Hardship Withdrawal.
Documentation pertinent to the situation/incident MUST be provided. Requests will not be processed if complete documentation is not provided.
The Late Withdrawal process involves the Office of Students Records, the student, the instructor(s), the Withdrawal Committee, and the Academic Dean and/or Vice President.
The student is required to complete the Appeal for Late Withdrawal Request Form and provide adequate documentation as outlined in the Late Withdrawal Student Guidelines Packet.
The instructor(s), Withdrawal Committee, Academic Dean (s), and/or the Vice President will review and process the student’s request in a timely manner; the Late Withdrawal process normally requires fifteen working days.
Student Records updates the student’s records appropriate for the decision and notifies the student of the final decision.
Failure to comply with/follow this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
